My name is Cindy Lou Cantu and I have been a resident of the Rosemead community for 12 years. I am a native of Los Angeles and attended elementary through high school at the Los Angeles Unified School District. I received my Master of Arts degree in psychology from California State University, Los Angeles. While in college, I published in the area of Developmental Psychology. I have worked over 18 years in the public sector as a research analyst in the areas of education and health.
When my husband and I enrolled our children at Savannah Elementary, we immediately became involved as parent volunteers. We were aware parent involvement is an integral part of a child’s education and we wanted to be involved with the school community. When our oldest child started first grade, I became part of the PTA board and have been part of the Board ever since.
My decision to run for School Board stems from my involvement with the PTA. I want to expand my involvement from the children at our school to the children in our District. I want to ensure the voice of our students, parents and schools are heard and represented. When working as an educational research analyst in a large school district, I was responsible for educating administrators and teachers on using data to make data driven decisions to drive instruction. I can bring those same skills and knowledge as [a] board member. As a parent, I have heard concerns from other parents, including the services received by special education students, the hiring of additional staff for health services, psychologists and additional classroom staff. With my professional skills and being a “consumer” of the services and resources provided by the District, I hope to have the opportunity to further lead our schools to success.
